Ending the suspense, Ashiq Abu-Mammooty team’s gangster came out. Mammootty plays the underworld hero Akbar Ali Khan in a different role. The initial reports are that the director failed to satisfy many of the fans who had high hopes for the film directed by Ashiq Abu after Idukki Gold.
The shooting and other things were done keeping the information about the film secret. Gangster features a hero who takes revenge on those who killed his parents. Kunjan plays Mani Menon, a drug dealer. The plot of the film is that at the age of 16, Akbar leaves the country and comes to Mangalore to take revenge on those who killed his parents. The story is repeated many times which makes the movie boring. Online comments make it clear that even the fans did not like Mammootty who did not open his mouth. The Sufi song Allah is the plus point of the film, Naila Usha and other co-actors have nothing much to do.
Experimentation infused with animated scenes, innovation in camera and background music will have to be treated as a make-up for the shortcomings of Gangster.
Gangster will cause Ashiq Abu’s graph to go down this Uttarayana period, which has captured the audience with its diversity of presentation. Recommended only for those who have never seen The Paddy of Patience.
